The Ohio Chapter, American Academy of Pediatrics (Ohio AAP) has named the City of Springboro a Store It Safe City in recognition of its efforts to prevent fatal incidents to children and teens through safe storage of lethal means. Ohio AAP’s Store It Safe (SIS) program is a unique partnership of pediatric healthcare providers, firearm safety experts, mental health and suicide prevention experts, law enforcement, education professionals, state and local government and community organizations established to spread unified, nonpartisan messaging, resources, and education to reduce unintentional firearm injuries and deaths in children, and suicides by firearms and other lethal means in adolescents. The City of Springboro was designated a Store it Safe Community in August 2025.
The program focuses on preventing youth suicide and injury by promoting the safe storage of firearms and medications by taking real action. This includes educating families and caregivers about the importance of securing lethal means and creating a community culture where help is visible, accessible and free of stigma or politics.
