The City of Springboro is switching trash collection providers to Rumpke Waste & Recycling.
At the March last evening’s City Council meeting, Council approved a five-year contract with Rumpke to provide its residents with weekly trash, every-other-week recycling and seasonal yard waste collection beginning April 30, 2020. Monthly costs for trash collection will remain the same for residents for the forseeable future.
Residents will receive notification from Rumpke in late March including the collection schedule and directions to request a Rumpke trash cart, available for $3 per month. If you rent trash carts from Waste Management, they will be collecting their trash carts prior to Rumpke service starting. Recycling carts are property of the City of Springboro and remain with the household where delivered.
The City will also contact residents with collection information prior to the first Rumpke pickup date.
The City and Rumpke are working to make this a seamless transition for residents; however, there will be some notable changes:
* Rumpke will collect trash on Thursdays and Fridays. Residents will be notified of their new collection day via US mail by both Rumpke and the City of Springboro.
* Rumpke will collect large/bulk items like furniture and appliances on the same day as scheduled trash service. Residents are encouraged to call in advance to inform Rumpke of the additional material.
* Residents will now have the ability to recycle cartons. Other items accepted in Rumpke’s recycling program include:
* Plastic bottles and jugs
* Glass bottles and jars
* Aluminum cans
* Steel cans
* Paper products--excluding paper plates, napkins, take-out containers and towels
* Cardboard boxes
Rumpke only observes two holidays - Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. Collection will be delayed one day during the holiday weeks.
"We are excited to partner with Rumpke to ensure our residents continue to receive quality, cost-effective services," said Springboro City Manager Chris Pozzuto. "Rumpke services the majority of our neighboring cities and they come highly recommended."
"For nearly 90 years, our family business has worked with local municipalities to provide their residents with the essential services of waste and recycling collection," said Bill Rumpke III, vice president, Rumpke. "We are very excited for the opportunity to service the City of Springboro."
