The City of Springboro and Mills Development announced today the first retail user at Wright Station, the new development at the intersection of State Routes 741 and 73, will be Warped Wing Brewing Company. The Dayton-based brewery plans to open The Warped Wing Barrel Room & Smokery, a unique barrel-aged facility, taproom, eatery and test pilot brewery in the summer of 2020. Construction of the 20,000 square foot facility will begin later this summer. The Rickhouse will boast a large taproom with an outdoor biergarten and flexible event space. The facility will accommodate up to 400 aging barrels along with brewing, canning, packaging and distribution.

“The City is excited to welcome Warped Wing to Wright Station,” said Springboro City Manager Chris Pozzuto. “We were searching for a home run to jump-start our redevelopment of the 73/741 intersection, and with Warped Wing, we’ve hit a grand slam.”

“We couldn’t have asked for a better first retail user to announce than Warped Wing Brewing Company,” said Mills Development president Jerad Barnett. “They are a fantastic local operator with a proven product and growing fan base, exactly the recipe we are looking for at Wright Station. As we’ve gotten to know their team, it’s no surprise they’ve been successful. We look forward to a long relationship and can’t wait to get started on construction later this summer.”

The new facility will not only offer bottled and draft barrel-aged beers but also a staple of its flagship beers such as IPAs, stouts, lagers and other styles. In addition, an extensive bottle collection will be available to drink on premise or purchase to go.

“Our barrel-aged program at Warped Wing has propelled us into an interesting place” said Nick Bowman, co-founder and VP of sales and marketing. “My partner, co-founder and brewmaster John Haggerty brought a wealth of knowledge and experience with him when he joined our team six years ago,” said Bowman. “He pushes the creativity of recipe development to another level. The scale of the new facility and the pilot system will give us endless opportunities to experiment with new styles and flavor profiles.”

The restaurant will bring an innovative, eclectic menu designed to complement the robust beer selection. There will be a major focus on smoked meat/food items and many dishes will featureWarped Wing beers as ingredients. Other libations available will be hard cider and wine as well as a limited spirits menu focused on specialty cocktails and non-alcoholic options.

Warped Wing will provide a one-of-a-kind experience for patrons with programs like Barrel Club Reserve membership which will allow members to get up-close, hands-on tour experiences, exclusive tastings and first offering purchases of extremely limited bottles.

Warped Wing has won accolades for a series of its barrel-aged products such as Whiskey Rebellion and continues to develop other brands within its traditional beer and barrel-aged product portfolio.

Wright Station is a new urban village center being developed by Mills Development in partnership with the City of Springboro. Anchored by the Springboro Performing Arts Center which opens in the fall of 2019, the new development will include a mix of restaurants, retail shops, office, microbrewery and other entertainment spaces unique to the Springboro area with a design that is friendly to pedestrians and bicyclists and offer ample parking for vehicles.
