- Drain Irrigation Systems: Turn off and drain your system to protect it from damage.
- Secure Exposed Plumbing: Keep garage doors closed if your meter or plumbing is in a garage or exposed area.
- Prevent Pipe Freezing: If your home has a history of frozen pipes, consider letting one faucet trickle slightly overnight.
- Locate Your Water Shut-Off Valve: Be ready to turn off water immediately if a pipe freezes or bursts.
- Check Vulnerable Areas: Identify unheated spaces like basements, crawl spaces or outside walls that are most at risk for freezing.
