Biking In The Boro

For Fun. For Health. For Transportation.

City of Springboro Biking in the Boro
The City of Springboro is committed to providing its residents with a non-motorized transportation system that safely links the City’s neighborhoods, business districts, parks, schools and the surrounding region. In 2009 City Council adopted an action plan that outlined a strategy for Springboro to become more bike friendly; that was followed by the establishment of an ad-hoc Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee (BPAC) to advise City Council, other board and commissions and City staff on related policy issues. BPAC meets monthly and is supported by a staff liaison.

Springboro is a certified Bike Friendly Community

The City of Springboro has once again earned Bronze Bicycle Friendly Community recertification, 2024-2028, from the League of American BicyclistsBFC_seal_Bronze_2024-2028. This designation recognizes the City's commitment to promoting cycling through infrastructure, education and community engagement. The certification, valid for four years, was first awarded to Springboro in 2016. Springboro is ONE of our 19 communities in the state to achieve this honor. In addition to designated bike lanes, park paths and trails, the City's Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee (BPAC) hosts a variety of recreational and educational events throughout the year, including Bike the Boro, a bicycle speaker series and various biking and hiking activities.

2026 Next Destination Speaker Series

The Springboro Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee (BPAC) and the Springboro Public Library are offering five sessions as part of its annual Next Destination Speaker Series. Sessions start at 6:30 pm and take place in the Springboro Performing Art Center, 115 Wright Station Way unless noted*. Sessions last 60 minutes with time afforded for questions and conversation afterwards. More information and biographies of presenters here.

Bike the Boro Rides--start at 10 a.m.

Bike the Boro starts with three family fun rides that will offer a good challenge for all cyclists. All three bike rides start and end at the North Park parking lot so you will not miss any of the fun following the rides and there will be plenty of bike parking spaces. All rides begin with a  group start and the rides take place on the streets of Springboro, some are major thoroughfares.

There will be a pre-ride orientation for each ride. The ride starts will be staggered but each ride route will begin as a group. There will be follow riders and support and gear vehicles.

While there will be bicycle repair capabilities at the ride start, cyclists should have a ride-ready bicycle. Participants are responsible for making their own evaluation of traffic, road, safety and weather conditions. All riders will need to have a helmet and reflective clothing is recommended.

All routes will be designated with color-coded directional signs and there will be a follow rider at the end of the pack for the longer rides. Rest stops will be provided.

Pick the ride that is most suited to your ability, road conditions, and the weather. Please arrive with your bike ready to ride, check your brakes, shifters, and other components. Bikes must have reflectors, a headlight, and a tail light.  Please plan to be able to finish the ride in 60-75 minutes so that you can visit the exhibitors after the rides are through. All three rides will have hills. We will have paper copies of the route maps and cue sheets at the registration table. Free helmets will be available at Bike the Boro.

Bike the Boro is not a race. The three bike rides take place on the streets of Springboro and motor vehicle traffic will be maintained. Follow the colored-coded signs for your respective route and be aware that other routes may follow the same roadway. Please obey all traffic laws including stopping at all stop signs and red lights. Ride as far right as possible and use the bike lane where applicable.

bike hand signalsUse hand signals  to alert those around you if you are turning left, right, or stopping.

If you need to stop, move as quickly and safely as possible to the curb or tree lawn. If you see an on-road hazard such as a pothole, please point it out to riders behind you.

Bicycle & Pedestrian Plan

BPAC has been busy since that time and in 2013 its work led to the adoption of the Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan that included policy and infrastructure recommendations in support of the long-range development of a pedestrian and bicycle network. That work had led to the designation of North Main Street (SR 741) as the first bike lane in the community in 2011 and the completion of a bike hub called “SPARC and Go” (Springboro Area Recharging Center) in 2013 on South Main Street in the Historic District. A second bike hub is located at 510 North Main Street.

Bicycle & Pedestrian Plan Update, Spring 2020

The plan was updated and adopted in 2020, identifying current community priorities and providing recommendations on what to focus on next. See the plan here:  https://walkbike.info/springboro/.

Community Park features DK Bicycles pump trackspump trac sept 23 1pump track sept 23

Pump tracks at Community Park were added in the fall of 2023. Located at the west end of the park, a rider on a BMX or mountain bike generates momentum by body movements instead of pushing or pedaling the circuit of rollers, banked turns and other features. DK Bicycles Pump Tracks feature an 810-foot track and a 200-foot all- accessible/youth track. Both tracks connect to the park’s restroom and shelters by concrete trail. The pump track was a recommendation of the Bicycle & Pedestrian Plan adopted by City Council in July 2020.

Thank you to everyone who participated in the 2025 Bob Stomel Memorial Ride

The City of Springboro partnered with Huffy and other organizations to honor longtime resident, Huffy employee and bicycle advocate Robert Stomel who passed away in April 2023 with a memorial ride and expo. Robert was a founding member of BPAC and volunteered at Springboro bike events by tuning up bikes and doing helmet fittings.

All proceeds from the ride were donated to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (PanCan).

Huge thank you to Huffy, the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, Everybody Cycling of Springboro, and Whitman’s Bikeways Bike Shop in Miamisburg for supporting this ride.
